As we embark on year 61 of the NYHL, we are very excited to announce our AA Flyers Head Coach assignments, Flyers tryout schedule and Flyers programming for the 2025-2026 season. We will once again have High Performance skill practices 1-2 per month.  Practices will be focused on skill development with sessions based around age and skill level.   These practices will mirror our Spring High Performance sessions with fast pace and high repetitions.   

We will also be conducting Flyers goalie sessions with Coach Goose 1-2 two times per month.  These will be goalie specific sessions throughout the 2025-2026 season for our Flyers goaltenders.

Flyers AA 2025-2026 Coaching Assignments:

 

Squirt 10U AA Flyers Head Coach – James Perkin

• Coach Perkin is heading into his 12th season as Hockey Director with the NYHL. James has Head Coached Flyers teams from Mite to U16 at the A and AA level. Last season James coached both our Squirt AA and U16 AA teams leading our U16 AA to a state championship.  Originally from Calgary, Canada James played two seasons of Junior hockey- one with the Calgary Canucks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and one with the Lincoln Stars in the United States Hockey League (USHL). After his Junior career, James played four years of NCAA Division I at Bowling Green State University, CCHA. Coach Perkin is USA Hockey level 4 certified. 

 

 

Peewee 12U AA Flyers Head Coach – Todd Bisson

                                        Assistant Coach – Nick Rizzo

• Coach Bisson is entering his 10th season coaching youth hockey, having coached from the Mite level to the Collegiate level with the Arizona State University Sun Devils (ACHA) in both the state of Arizona and Tennessee. During the 2024-2025 season, Todd served as the Head Coach of our U12 Peewee AA Flyers team, achieving significant team success by winning two tournament championships and securing a runner-up finish in another. In the 2021-22 season, Todd was the Head Coach of our U14 Bantam AA Nashville Flyers team. From 2019 to 2021, Todd held the position of Assistant Coach for USA Hockey National Championship Tournament teams, U14 Bantam AA Nashville Flyers. Originally from Welland, Ontario, Canada, and now a dual Canadian/US citizen, Todd played two seasons of Junior hockey with the Port Colborne Sailors in the Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League (GHJHL). Following his Junior career, Todd played four years of NCAA Division I college hockey at Canisius College in the Atlantic Hockey league, earning the Rookie of the Year and Best Forward team awards. After his Collegiate career, Todd played four years of professional hockey in the ECHL and UHL. Coach Bisson holds a USA Hockey level 4 certification.

 

 

Bantam 14U AA Flyers Head Coach – Greg Sauers

• Coach Sauers grew up playing hockey in Florida before going on to play AAA hockey in Georgia. After finishing youth hockey, he moved on to play junior hockey in Texas (WSHL), New Hampshire (AJHL) and Wyoming (NA3HL). He played three years of NCAA DIII hockey at Aurora University (Aurora, IL). In his senior year, he played ACHA DII for Aurora University where he was named Player of the Year for the Central Region and was selected to the All-American 1st selection team at Nationals. Since moving to Nashville in 2018; Greg has been coaching youth hockey including our Bantam AA the last two season, Peewee AA Flyers (2022-2023 & 2021-2022) & Bantam A1 Flyers (2020-2021), assisting Middle Tennessee State University (ACHA) in 2021-2022 and also serves as the Head Coach for the Varsity Summit High School Hockey Team.  Last season he led our Bantam AA team to 38-19-7 record with a SESCL regular season championship, state championship and 3rd place finish at Nationals.  Coach Sauers is USA Hockey Level 4 certified.

 

 

16U AA Flyers Head Coach – James Perkin

18U AA Flyers Head Coach – Matt Neal

• Coach Neal is going into his 9th year as a coach of the Nashville Flyers program. Matt had been the assistant coach for the U16AA flyers for two seasons, head coach of the U18AA for three seasons advancing to Nationals in 2021-2022, head coach for the U16A1 team in 2022-2023 and last two seasons head coach of our U18 AA Flyers team.  Matt grew up in Nashville and played for the TPH Thunder program through 16U and the Nashville Jr. Predators at 18U. Matt is USA Hockey Level 4 certified.

Flyers Travel Season At-a-Glance

Travel Commitment (10U - 18U):  

• 5 League Weekends - traveling to southern rinks within a 2 to 5-hour car ride to cities such as Huntsville, Memphis, Knoxville, Evansville, Atlanta
• 4 Tournaments - traveling for up to 3 within a 2 to 6-hour car ride to cites such as St. Louis, Cincinnati, Atlanta
• 2 to 6 "Friendly" games with local area teams

Team jerseys, socks, warm-up suit, and other apparel are included with league fees.

Hotel accommodations are not included in league fees.

8U (Mite) Travel Program: Tryouts are typically in August. Players also play on an 8U House team in the NYHL House League.  Travel to two or three locations within a 2 to 3-hour radius of the city. This program is designed to introduce parents and players to travel hockey. The cost is in addition to the fee for the 8U (Mite) House League.
